According the Minister's sayings, recently has been finished a research which has as a main task to elaborate the more effective technologies for the renewal of the old Nicosia. Mr. Christou says that now it will be finalized the paper work and the proper process of renovation will start in 2006 and it will last till 2008. The main task of the governmental plan is to return back the inhabitants of the old Nicosia and to renew the infrastructure in that area. Mr. Christou also added: " The plan regarding the renovation of the old city is as a message that we consider Nicosia unified and we will fight for the unification of the whole island". This year, Cyprus government will lay out a total amount of 2.5 millions CYP for the refurbishment of ancient buildings. Besides that, especially for the reconstruction of the old area of the city are laid out 28 million EUR. The major problem is that the owners of the ruined old buildings are totally disinterested in their renovation. Also the owners of that kind of buildings which are considered as national monuments will be obligated to make an effort and to stop the process their demolition. The owners seem to be more interested in the process of building of new cyprus villas and other more profitable deals. Only old citizens are interested in the maintenance of the ancient buildings on Cyprus.
